Remember Me

In the final moments before His crucifixion, Jesus gathered his disciples together for a meal as He would momentarily forever change the course of history. Jesus knew what sorrow awaited him in the next few hours, but He also knew the impact this meal would have on the lives of His disciples and later on the lives of generations to come. This was not just any ordinary supper; this was the Lord's Supper.

As Jesus broke bread and shared wine with his closest companions, He was inviting them to remember Him always. He knew that in the days, months, and years ahead, his disciples would face trials and tribulations that would test their faith. But by remembering Him, they would find the strength and courage to persevere.

The intimacy of sharing a meal with those you love and who love you cannot be understated. Meals with those special people often become cherished memories. It is a powerful way to show how much those people mean to you, and in the case of Jesus and His disciples, it became a symbol of the bond they shared.

The ordinary elements of bread and wine became significant symbols of Jesus and His sacrifice for humanity. As His followers partook in the meal, they were reminded of the ultimate act of love that Jesus would soon undertake on the cross.

Despite our shortcomings and sins, we are all invited to the feast that Jesus offers. Believers are welcomed with open arms, no matter how unworthy we may feel. It is a reminder that we are all in need of grace and forgiveness, and that Jesus is always there to offer it to us.

But the question remains: what will it take for us to truly embrace this invitation? What is holding us back from fully committing ourselves to Christ and his teachings? Are we too easily distracted by the cares of this world to prioritize our relationship with Him who knew no sin, but became sin for us?

Jesus once asked Peter, Do you love me? Do you love me more than these? It is a question that cuts to the core of our faith and commitment. What will it take for us to answer with a resounding yes, and to live our lives in a way that reflects that love?

As we remember Christ and keep Him at the forefront of our minds and hearts, it is miraculously Christ who reminds us that we are not forgotten. He is always with us, guiding us and loving us unconditionally.

So let us accept Jesus' invitation to feast beyond satisfaction. Let us remember Him always, and allow His love to transform our lives in ways we never thought possible. For in remembering Him, we find the strength, courage, and grace to face whatever challenges come our way.
